Mohawk Beanie

Pattern in .pdf format.
This is my first *original* pattern. It is a basic beanie with a mohawk stripe. I knit in in the round first and then flat second.
I used US Size 8 douple point needles but I think it would be loads easier to use a US Size 8 20 in circular, and the go to the dps when you start the decreases. Unfortunately I don’t have one of those. If you do use dps I reccomend using some rubber bands or something to hold your stitches on the needle you aren’t working. Also I reccomend using a row counting thing. I am not actually sure how you are supposed to use it, but I thread my yarn through it before I cast on.

Worsted weight yarn in a main color. This hat is Lion Brand Wool-Ease in Fisherman.
2 balls(CC1 and CC2) Eyelash yarn in a contrasting color. You could buy 1 ball but you would have to divide it into two balls for this project. I used Lion Brand Fun Fur in Lime.

For a ladies hat knit round:
Cast on 80 stitches with the main hat color. I used a cable cast on, because in my beanie research it came reccomended. But cast on however you want. (I did this so that there would be 8 sections of 10. If you want to make the hat smaller cast on 8 fewer stitches and have 8 sections of 9 or if bigger have 8 sections of 11. If you want to make a baby sized hat cast on 40 stitches and have 8 sections of 5. If you change the hat size put a marker to separate each section and when you get to the decreases -decrease before each marker but make sure the mohawk section is always 9 stitches thick if your hat is 8×9, 11 thick if 8×11 or 5 thick if 8×5. I will try to do the math and add patterns for the other sizes later.)

Work the band in MC only.
Knit around and mark the first stitch.
Purl one row. Mark every 10th stitch.
Knit one row, the purl one row until you have worked 10 rows. (Disregard the picture for the band, that hat only has 5 garter rows, way too few.)

Row 11: MC K10. MC&CC1 (hold the two strands together) P10. MC K30. MC&CC2 P10. MC K20.
Repeat for rows 12-30.

Question about your beanie in the round – do you drop your CC1 and CC2 colors after you have done the P10s? Do you carry them along behind the MC? How are you doing this? Thanks for the help!
